My introduction into the world of marching band and color guard started in 1996 when I became a letterette for my junior high school. It was while working on our competitive street routine with the marching band that I also became interested in playing the flute and piccolo. I had a remarkable time playing with the band during school, and being a part of the letterette line after school. When I went on to high school, I continued doing letterettes and playing the flute/piccolo in the band. I became Captain of the color guard, and played in the wind ensemble, and symphonic orchestra. After graduating high school in 2002, I became the auxiliary instructor for my old junior high school, and my career really started to grow from there. I taught color guard at several schools in the Sweetwater Union High School District, and in 2007 had the tremendous opportunity to establish the dance program at Olympian High School. I ultimately finished out my stretch of teaching dance and color guard in 2011. Throughout my years teaching color guard in the SUHSD, I earned countless 1st place trophies in street, field, winterguard, and attained three Gold Medals at the WGASC Championships in 2006, 2007, and 2009.
These accomplishments led me into the process of becoming an Auxiliary judge for SCSBOA. I have judged Auxiliary programs all across Southern California in some of the top Band Reviews and Parades since 2014. After getting married and having two children, I decided in 2019 to return to college and finish my AA in dance, which I received in 2020. I then immediately continued my education at Point Loma Nazarene University where I attained my BA in Education and a Single Subject Teaching Credential in Physical Education. In the summer of 2021 my family and I moved here to Rio Rancho for better opportunities. I am still very much in love with the performing arts and am attempting to establish myself in a new city, and state. My ambitions are to take the color guard scene to the next level in my community, and my long term goal is to start a winterguard organization to strengthen and increase the participation of this wonderful sport.
